Group vs Private Coding lessons, which is right for your child?

Group lessons and private lessons are two distinct approaches to education, each with advantages and disadvantages and dependent on your child’s individual learning preferences. If you’re considering our coding classes for your child, here are some key differences between our Group and Private coding lessons.

Group Coding Lessons with Coco Coders

  • In our Group coding classes for kids, we maintain small numbers of around 2-6 children who learn together in our online classroom in the same class during a 60 minute lesson every week.

  • Our group coding lessons are live online with one of our Coco teachers

  • Our group lessons encourage interaction and collaboration amongst students, which can promote peer learning and social development. Some great friendships are made in our coding classes.

  • Group discussions and activities take place, helping to develop communication skills and build confidence.

  • Children work to the same curriculum at the same pace.

  • Group dynamics can motivate some students as they learn alongside peers, however others may feel less accountable for their progress in a group setting.

  • Right now you can try a full 60-minute group coding lesson for free, so it’s a great opportunity for your child to try it out.

Private Coding Lessons with Coco Coders

  • Our Private lessons provide one-on-one instruction for 60 minutes every week.

  • During a private coding lesson, your child has the dedicated attention of one of our Coco Coders teachers.

  • Private lessons are great for children who may be able to focus better without the distraction of other students.

  • Our teachers are able to customise lesson plans to work for your child.

  • Private lessons allow for students to focus on their unique goals and progress at their own speed, offering a higher level of accountability

  • Private lessons can be more flexible in terms of scheduling.

Whether your child signs up for our group or private lessons, the way in which we teach coding is the same.

  • We make it really fun and engaging and our students look forward to their lessons every week! They’ll make their own games and come up with creative ideas.

  • We wrap our lessons up in creative themes - making coding appealing to every child.

  • We use a Spiral curriculum where, just as children learn math and spelling through repetition, they learn to code through repeated exposure and regular practice. We cover the coding fundamentals such as loops, variables and functions again and again in lots of different ways, which helps both our group and private students master the core concepts and build their confidence.
