With billions of people now connected worldwide, life in 2025 looks nothing like it did just twenty years ago. Technology isn’t just here to stay - it’s accelerating, and it will shape our children’s futures in ways we can’t yet imagine.
That raises the big question: how do we prepare our kids for a future we can’t predict?
As parents, it’s natural to feel overwhelmed. But the good news is that we don’t need a crystal ball. By focusing on a few key skills, we can help our children grow into capable, confident, and future-ready adults. Here’s where to start:
1. Safety First
Just as we teach kids about crossing the street or avoiding strangers, digital safety must become part of their early lessons. Today’s children often start using connected devices in preschool years, so the sooner they learn how to protect themselves online, the better. (Here’s some great tips to support children interested in technology)
2. Communication in a Digital World
Remote learning, virtual classrooms, and global teamwork are already part of everyday life, and they’ll only expand in the future. That’s why practicing clear, respectful communication through a screen is essential.
Video chats with grandparents, classmates, or mentors are great practice for active listening and turn-taking. (It’s also something we focus on in every Coco Coders online coding class!)
3. Healthy Device Habits
Kids learn best by example. If we want to limit their screen time, we have to model balanced habits ourselves. That means being mindful of how much time we spend scrolling or streaming. When kids see us putting the phone down, they’re more likely to follow suit. See our guide to the four types of screentime here.
Looking Ahead with Confidence
A tech-driven future doesn’t have to be scary. By combining strong values with modern skills, we can raise kids who are not only prepared but also empowered to thrive. The key is balance - teaching them to use technology as a tool while still prioritizing connection, creativity, and family time.
The future is already here. Let’s make sure our children are ready to embrace it.
