Say Hello to Python

We’ve got exciting news to share! We’re adding Python to our line-up of coding lessons - a brilliant new pathway for young coders ready to move beyond Scratch and dive into the world of text-based programming.

Why Python?

Until now, our students have started in Scratch - learning the core concepts of logic, sequencing, and creative problem-solving through its colourful block-based interface - and then moved onto JavaScript, a powerful language used in web development.

But we’ve seen that the leap from Scratch to JavaScript can be quite a big one. That’s why we’re introducing Python - a gentler and more intuitive entry point into the world of typed code. It’s the perfect bridge for older kids (typically 10+) who are ready to leave blocks behind, but still benefit from a clear, readable, and forgiving language.

What Makes Python So Great for Beginners?

Python is known for its simplicity and readability, making it one of the most popular first languages for children and adults alike. It allows young learners to focus on what they want the code to do, rather than worrying too much about how to write it.

In fact, Python is used everywhere - from automating tasks and analysing data, to powering games, websites, and even artificial intelligence. Companies like Google, Instagram, NASA, and Netflix all rely on it. So when your child learns Python, they’re not just gaining a stepping stone - they’re gaining a language that’s widely used in the real world.

A Natural Next Step After Scratch

Our new Python lessons are designed to build on the thinking skills developed in Scratch - breaking problems down, creating reusable code, and thinking like a developer. But now, instead of dragging blocks, students will be writing their own lines of code.

For older kids joining us for the first time, Python will now be their starting point. It’s a perfect introduction to typed code and sets a strong foundation for any future programming journey.

What This Means for Current Students

If your child is already learning JavaScript with us, nothing changes - they’ll continue along that path. But for students coming out of Scratch or starting fresh at age 10+, Python is now the natural next step.

We’re incredibly excited to be adding this powerful and beginner-friendly language to our curriculum, and we can’t wait to see what our students build with it.
