How Kids Can Practice Coding Between Lessons

By Beth Portelance, Marketing Manager

At Coco Coders we offer 60 minute interactive online coding classes for kids. Each class is set up to challenge students and develop their abilities while encouraging creativity and collaboration. But how can they continue to practice coding between classes? If coding is their passion or they just enjoy doing it as a hobby, we have compiled a list of fun ways to practice coding between classes.

1. Playing Games

All kids love to play games. But, did you know that gaming can also be educational? Games like Minecraft and Roblox involve elements of coding while playing. And there are free and paid mobile games that will further develop their skills. Check out our recommendations for  FREE IOS and Android Games that will Teach Your Kids to Code.

2. Practice

Programs such as Scratch and P5JS are a great way to exercise what your child has learned in the week with the freedom to create whatever they like. Both are free programs that kids can use anytime! They can extend projects they created in class or make something entirely different. Take a look at our free coding activities that kids can complete on their own.

3. Reading

Most people wouldn’t think to read when learning about coding because it is all done online. However, there are a lot of great resources out there. Programmer, writer, and CEO, Elizabeth Tweedale, wrote “How to Code 2.0” (Available on Amazon US & UK, Waterstones, and Barnes & Noble) that teaches children the essentials of coding. Learning through reading is perfect for exercising your child's mind and giving them a break from screens.

In summary

Supplemental learning is a great way to help children retain information. Learning does not have to be boring either. Games, apps, and creative activities can help to stimulate creativity and understanding. Coco’s coding classes for kids are far from boring. We provide all the tools your child needs to learn and have fun while doing it!
